Heres to 2011!

Well, with the last hour to go of 2011, I thought I'd write my last blog post for this year! I have not long got back from a meal with my friends which was lovely as I hadn't seen them for ages. It was really nice to end the year with their company. The remaining hours of 2011 (or minutes, by the time I finish typing this post -_- ) will be spent having a quiet night in with my family (I better quickly type this post and return back to be with them as they will probably be wondering where I've got to).

Anyway this year has been well in a word, AMAZING! 2011 marks the year I graduated with a first class honours in Medical Biochemistry, passed my driving test (on the 3rd go mind), went on my first date *blushes*. Ahh its been full of so many personal achievements and I'm so thankful to have had such a good year.
I've been thinking about new year resolutions for 2012 and I think for me it is to be more confident within myself. Naturally, I'm not a very confident person but I feel like the experiences I've had in 2011 have given me more self-belief and slowly my confidence has grown, but there is still room for improvement. I'm trying not to think about it but 2012 also marks the year that I may start medical school which is so exciting. Who knows if it actually happens though?! It will be very interesting to know where I stand this time next year!

Anyway I better get back downstairs to be with my family. All it remains for me to say is happy new year to anybody that may be reading this. I hope 2012 is a successful year that presents many opportunites and happy occasions!
...Goodbye 2011 & Hello 2012!!!!!!!

That horrible feeling...

So this time last week I had just finished my Liverpool interview which I thought had gone ok as discussed in my previous post. But the more and more I think about it, the more I think about what I wish I had said and what I wish that I hadn't. I know hindsight is a wonderful thing and its easier now to think about the answers I should have said when I'm not in a room full of two interviewers looking at me but I dunno I just can't stop thinking about it...How am I going to wait till March for the decision *sigh*

Anyway in other news I'm yet to start my Christmas shopping. I just don't have any motivation especially as I don't get paid till the 22nd of this month so I think I can safely say that my Christmas shopping will be done very last minute this year.
I have a work Christmas party on Sunday which I'm excited for, will be nice to go out and get dressed.
Hopefully I will be in the festive spirit by then!

Liverpool interview

So I had my first interview today at liverpool and my gosh I was soooo nervous! Couldnt really sleep the night before and kept on waking up thinking about the interview. Eventually woke up at 4.30am and left home at 6.30am. Luckily my Dad drove me up (long drive) to Liverpool and I arrived an hour before my allocated interview time. I have to say I think the interview went ok.. I just hope I expressed myself well, the interviewers were so nice and friendly and I hope they liked me. I'm not sure how I compare to the other graduates though.. I guess I'll have to wait till March before I find out. So glad the interview is over and done with..now to enjoy Christmas before my Birmingham interview in January!
Oh and I forgot to say I also have recieved an interview at Queens Belfast! I can't believe it, 3 interviews out of 4. Would never have expected it! Liverpool and Birmingham are really my first choices though, just because they are 4 year...will be over the moon if I can get an offer from one of these places!
Anyway I really am so tired so I think Im going to take a nap and just chill for the rest of the day :-)

BBC health is my new favourite homepage... (Interview prep)

So after getting two interviews..one being in 10 days (eeeek) I think motivation has finally kicked in and I am finally going to start with some prep! I think I'm going to try to blog about a medical news story every day and my thoughts about it!

So lets start with a news story I read which said that women who are in fear of labour can be given the opportunity to have a Caesarean..
Basically NICE is offering new guidelines which now says that women who don't have health complications can now opt to have a C-section! Currently C-sections are offered only if the woman has complications such as diabetes, high blood pressure or if the foetus is in the wrong position but new guidelines state that C-sections can be now offered even if there is no medical justification..

So what the advantages and disadvantages of such implications..

Advantages
  • May reduce abortions, as some women have abortions simply because they are scared of the pain of giving birth naturally.
  • Natural birth is known to be painful so giving women that choice may be seen as a good thing

Disadvantages
  • Having a C-section is around £1,000 more than giving birth naturally so at a time when the NHS is trying to save money it may not be such a good idea.
  •  C-sections may increase the hospital stay
In conclusion, I personally feel that women should be allowed to make informed decisions about their body and if the abortion rate is reduced as a result then I think it is a good idea..

2nd Interview :-D

Oh my gosh I can't believe it!! I have just received an email for an interview for Liverpool GEP medicine..
So so so happy right now but unfortunately i'm going to have to reschedule it!
I really pray that I can change the date though...

INTERVIEW FOR BIRMINGHAM GEC MEDICINE (4 YEAR)..

I have news!! So a letter came through the post on Friday morning (18th) and I have been invited to attend an interview to study medicine at Birmingham University on the 13th January 2012 (Friday the 13th..Oh how ironic hah!)
So so so happy as its my first choice! But also not feeling very confident....
Would really appreciate any advice that anyone would like to offer me :-)
